Hi, my name is Sonora Martinez. I am currently pursuing my Bachelor's of Science in Quantitative Sciences with a concentration in Biology at Emory University. Quantitative Sciences was founded on an interdisciplinary approach to quantitative learning. Through classes within the Quantitative Sciences department, I have learned statistical and mathematical techniques for analyzing data, in addition to becoming fluent in the programing software that assists in analyzing data, such as R, Python, SQL, and Tableau. The interdisciplinary approach arises with my melding of firm analytical skills to biological concepts. Through my biology concentration, I learned not only scientific concepts relating to biology, but also problem solving skills that are unique to science majors. The synchronicity of my major has taught me to approach problems with a unique perspective that melds various skill sets. I have learned to incorporate quantitative skills across diverse disciplines, from the sciences to the humanities.

Previous to my honing of these skills in college, I developed the ability to incorporate different perspectives into my understanding of the world through my unique personal upbringing. My father is from the Central American country of Belize, while my mother is from the United States. I moved to the U.S. from Belize when I was 3 years old, but I visited Belize for a month every summer. This unique experience taught me to acknowledge the strengths of different cultures and perspectives and to incorporate those strengths into my own understanding of the world.  To this day, I use my ability to understand differing outlooks and incorporate the strengths of each in the classroom, at work, and in my personal life.

In my free time, I enjoy exploring other countries and cultures. I have traveled to 11 countries, and even lived in Melbourne, Australia for five months. In all of these locations, I like to explore the customs, religion, history, fashion, and food of the local people. While in the U.S., I love to explore new restaurants and discover new food. I also enjoy spending my free time outdoors; kayaking, hiking and attending festivals. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions through the links on my website.
